July Member of the Month
This month, July 2019, we recognize Alex Karlis for his outstanding dedication and dopeness in the Hudson River Athletics community.
Get to know a little more about Alex:
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
Ever since I stopped playing college lacrosse, I've been longing for that competitive-type atmosphere. Needless to say, I've found it here at HRA. I love the competitiveness that each crossfit wod brings out in everyone. For me, there's always something to keep you on your toes, whether it's someone else in the gym getting really good and starts getting closer to my times or whether it's trying to catch someone else who's ahead of me. That competitive strive for excellence is king.
What differences have you seen in your body, and health since starting at The Riv?
Slimmed down a ton. Before, I would just lift as many weights as I could and just swell up (not a brag). Now I'm arguably as strong but more fit-looking.
Does CrossFit carry over in any way to your personal life?
I actually got into Crossfit because I needed to get in really good shape for the Greek National Lacrosse team. Crossfit has put me in the best shape of my life. Wish I knew about it earlier in life!
What has been your favorite moment at The Riv and what has it meant to you?
Kind of a selfish one, but before the 2019 Open, there was a heavy clean ladder and some T2B wod. And it just so happened to be that I was doing my heavy clean while a bunch of people were coming in to meet. They all started cheering me on and I went into a state of ecstasy. Truly awesome moment.
